Job summary

Redditch Borough Council is recruiting for a Food Waste Collection Loader to join the Bromsgrove/Redditch waste services team. The role is permanent, 37 hours per week, worked over any 4 days from 5 (Mon-Fri, 06:30-17:00, 16:30 finish on Fridays).

You will collect food waste from residential properties, ensure safe handling, and may assist with other waste collections as required. A full UK driving licence is essential.

The Role

Bromsgrove and Redditch Councils are seeking to recruit Food Waste Collection Loaders to support the delivery of our new weekly food waste collection service across both districts.

As a Food Waste Collection Loader, you will play a key role in helping residents recycle their food waste and contribute to environmental sustainability. Working as part of a collection crew, you will collect food waste from residential properties and ensure waste is handled safely and efficiently.

There may also be opportunities to support the wider Waste Services team, including domestic refuse, recycling and garden waste collections, as required.

Key Requirements

You will:

• Be able to work flexibly across all collection rounds and from any of our depot locations.
• Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors and residents.
• Be physically capable of carrying out the duties of the role, including walking up to 10-15 miles per day and safely handling food waste caddies and wheeled bins.
• Demonstrate a reliable and positive approach to work.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for individuals with experience in waste collection services or a similar outdoor operational environment.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

• A full UK driving licence and a willingness to work across both council areas and depot locations.
• A good understanding of health and safety requirements and their importance in the workplace.
• Effective verbal communication skills and basic written recording skills.
• A commitment to delivering excellent customer service.A positive, flexible and proactive attitude.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good time management and attendance.
• Professional conduct when representing the councils within the local community.
• A minimum of one year's experience within a waste management role or similar operational environment.
• Knowledge of Bromsgrove and Redditch and the services provided by the councils.
• Experience operating machinery, vehicles or equipment within a working environment.
