Job summary

TWI Ltd in Cambridge is looking for a Senior Laboratory Technician to join our Environmental Laboratories. You will support materials testing in challenging environments, including hydrogen sulphide and other aggressive conditions, delivering precise results for innovative projects.

We value hands-on problem solving, a solid mechanical engineering foundation, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. Travel in the UK and abroad may be required.

Environmental Testing Technician Laboratory Technician MPL/ MSI Location: Cambridge Contract: Permanent Hours: Full time Job Profile: Laboratory Technician Salary/annum: Min £27,700 - Max £35,500 Reference number: JR100697 Closing Date: 21 October 2026 Security requirements: Security Clearance, BPSS and DBS may be required. We’re on the lookout for practical, detail-oriented individuals to join our dynamic team in Cambridge as a Senior Technician in our cutting-edge Environmental Laboratories. These labs are at the forefront of materials testing in challenging environments—including hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen, and other aggressive conditions. Your contributions will directly support innovative projects that push the boundaries of engineering and sustainability.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Collaborating with Project Engineers and fellow technicians to deliver bespoke materials testing.
  • Working with challenging environments under varying pressures and temperatures to simulate real-world conditions.
  • Applying your engineering know-how to assemble machinery, solve practical problems, and ensure high-quality results.
What You Bring

A solid foundation in mechanical engineering and a keen eye for detail. Experience with machinery assembly and hands-on problem solving. The ability to work both independently and within a high performing team. Bonus points for knowledge of: Gas chromatography Instrumentation and materials testing machines Data logging and analysis using Excel Materials testing using servo hydraulic machines Pressure testing.
