Job summary

TWI Ltd in Cambridge is seeking an Engineer or Senior Engineer to join our Friction Welding & Processing team. You will contribute to industrial research, development and consultancy projects across aerospace, defence, energy, manufacturing and transport.

The role involves designing and executing experimental programmes, analysing data and building innovative joining technologies with opportunities to collaborate with international experts.

Qualifications

• A degree, MSc or PhD in Materials Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in friction welding or solid-state joining technologies is highly advantageous.
• Strong technical and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and collaborative working abilities.
• A passion for innovation and engineering excellence.

Description

Are you passionate about advanced manufacturing, materials engineering and innovative joining technologies? TWI is seeking an Engineer or Senior Engineer to join our Friction Welding & Processing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of industrial research, development and consultancy projects supporting customers across aerospace, defence, energy, manufacturing and transportation sectors. Working alongside internationally recognised experts, you will contribute to the development of cutting‑edge welding and processing technologies while helping clients solve complex engineering challenges.

Requirements

• Experience in friction welding, friction stir welding, solid state joining technologies or related manufacturing processes would be highly advantageous.

Working hours

36 hours per week (full time), 8.30am -16.30pm Monday to Thursday (finishing at 16.15pm on Friday). Part‑time and hybrid working available in some roles.
