Job summary

Ace Academics Consultancy seeks an English Lecturer / Functional Skills English Tutor to join a Wolverhampton FE college. Plan and deliver GCSE English Language and Functional Skills lessons, across levels, and help resit learners achieve target grades.

You will develop reading, writing (SPaG), and speaking/listening skills in a supportive, inclusive environment, with safeguarding commitments and DBS checks as required.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in English or closely related subject.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS, QTS or QTLS) or equivalent teaching experience.
• Experience delivering GCSE English or Functional Skills in an educational setting.
• Good understanding of GCSE English Language curriculum requirements.
• Strong literacy, communication and classroom management skills.
• Ability to motivate learners with varying levels of confidence and ability.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of learners.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English lessons.

Ace Academics is seeking a passionate and experienced English Lecturer / Functional Skills English Tutor to join a reputable Further Education college based in Wolverhampton.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English lessons.
• Teach across appropriate levels, potentially including Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills.
• Support GCSE English resit learners in developing examination techniques and achieving target grades.
• Deliver lessons covering reading comprehension, creative writing, transactional writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG).
• Develop learners' speaking, listening and communication skills through practical classroom activities.
• Adapt teaching methods to support students with different abilities, learning needs and educational backgrounds.
• Assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records.
• Prepare students for GCSE examinations and Functional Skills English assessments.
• Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment.

Essential Requirements

• Relevant qualification in English, English Language, English Literature or a closely related subject.
• Recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS, QTS or QTLS, or equivalent relevant teaching experience.
• Previous experience delivering GCSE English, Functional Skills English or English within an educational setting.
• Good understanding of GCSE English Language and/or Functional Skills English curriculum requirements.
• Strong literacy, communication and classroom management skills.
• Ability to motivate and engage learners with varying levels of confidence and ability.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience teaching within a Further Education college, sixth form or adult learning environment.
• Experience delivering GCSE English Language resit programmes.
• Experience teaching Functional Skills English at Level 1 and Level 2.
• Familiarity with Pearson Edexcel, AQA or other recognised awarding bodies.
• Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs, including SEND or ESOL backgrounds.
