Job summary

Dovetail & Slate Ltd is seeking an English Lecturer to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to post-16 learners in the North East from September 2026. You’ll plan engaging lessons, adapt resources for mixed abilities, and help learners build confidence to achieve essential qualifications.

You’ll work with curriculum colleagues and support staff to ensure inclusive practice, track progress, provide feedback, and support exam preparation, attendance and engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English
• A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
• Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
• Commitment to supporting learners from diverse backgrounds

A further education provider in the North East is looking for an English Lecturer to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to post-16 learners from September 2026.

You’ll teach learners across a range of vocational programmes, many of whom are resitting English, and you’ll help them build the confidence and skills they need to achieve and progress.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning and delivering engaging GCSE and Functional Skills English sessions to learners of mixed abilities.
• Adapting lessons and resources to meet a range of learning needs.
• Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely feedback.
• Supporting learners with exam preparation, attendance and engagement.
• Working alongside curriculum colleagues and support staff to ensure inclusive practice.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English
• A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
• Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
• Commitment to supporting learners from diverse backgrounds

Desirable (but not essential):

• A degree in English or a related subject
• Previous experience within further education
• Experience supporting resit learners
