Job summary

Trafford College, part of the Trafford & Stockport College Group (TSCG), is hiring an Engineering Trainer Assessor to manage a caseload of apprentices and provide regular workplace coaching and progress reviews. Travel to employer sites will be required, with a focus on ensuring apprenticeship standards are met.

The role involves workplace assessments, onboarding, and collaboration with curriculum teams to align learning with the job.

Qualifications

• Qualified to Level 3 or above in Engineering discipline (Machining, Mechanical or Electrical).
• Hold an Assessor qualification (CAVA, A1 or equivalent) or be willing to work towards one.
• Have GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
• Bring recent industry experience in machining, mechanical or electrical maintenance/fitting engineering.
• Have experience of supporting, training, mentoring or developing apprentices.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of engineering apprentices, providing regular workplace support, coaching and progress reviews.
• Conduct formal reviews with apprentices and employers, setting clear targets and monitoring progress.
• Assess apprentice competence in the workplace through observation, portfolio reviews and discussions.
• Coach and mentor apprentices to develop skills, knowledge and behaviours for success in their role.
• Support learners to build and maintain high-quality evidence portfolios meeting apprenticeship requirements.
• Maintain accurate records using electronic portfolio systems and learner management systems.
• Lead onboarding and induction activities for apprentices and align with off-the-job training.
• Deliver additional training and underpinning knowledge as required to support development.
• Prepare apprentices for End Point Assessment, including mock assessments and guidance.
