Job summary

Shrewsbury College is seeking an Engineering Assessor to assess engineering apprentices and learners, planning workplace visits, observing practical skills, and reviewing portfolios to verify evidence against competency frameworks. The role includes providing constructive feedback and coaching learners to meet performance and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering knowledge and practical experience in relevant disciplines.
• Assessment and verification skills, including familiarity with competency-based assessment and awarding body requirements.
• Ability to provide clear, structured feedback, coach learners, and support diverse learning needs.
• Excellent communication, organization, and record-keeping skills to manage caseloads, documentation, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct workplace visits to assess learners in engineering.
• Observe practical skills and review portfolios against competency frameworks.
• Verify evidence and provide constructive feedback to learners.
• Coach learners to meet performance and safety standards.
• Liaise with employers, tutors and QA teams to track progress and ensure compliance.
• Maintain assessment records and contribute to standardization and PD activities.
