Job summary

Hovis Bakeries is seeking an experienced Engineering Team Leader to manage a shift-based engineering team in a high-speed manufacturing environment. The role focuses on hands-on electrical and mechanical maintenance, owning complex faults while supporting the team and maintenance planning.

The ideal candidate will have strong multi-skilled engineering experience, leadership capabilities from a Senior Engineer role, and an NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship or equivalent. FMCG background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Multiskilled engineering capability across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
• Proven leadership as a Senior Engineer or similar.
• NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship or equivalent time‑served training.
• Strong PLC fault-finding capabilities on PLC-controlled equipment.
• Experience with drives, motors, sensors and control panels.
• Background in FMCG, food or high-speed manufacturing.
• Confident, hands-on leader setting standards and coaching the team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a shift engineering team in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
• Take technical lead on electrical, automation and control system faults.
• Support PLC, drives, HMI and instrumentation fault finding.
• Ensure safe and effective response to breakdowns on shift.
• Drive engineering, safety and maintenance standards on shift.
• Reduce repeat faults through structured problem solving.
• Communicate clearly with engineering management and operations.
