Job summary

2 Sisters Food Group in Carlisle is seeking an engineering manager to lead a team of skilled engineers on a fast-paced production line, taking ownership of performance, safety, and reliability. You will oversee shift handovers, coordinate maintenance activities, drive preventative maintenance and continuous improvement, and balance people management with hands-on technical support.

The Role

As an engineering manager, you’ll take ownership of engineering performance across your shift — leading, supporting, and developing a team of skilled engineers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing shift handovers , ensuring clear communication of priorities and actions.
• Attending and contributing to daily operational meetings .
• Overseeing breakdown response , prioritising engineering resources effectively to minimise downtime.
• Driving preventative maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and performance.
• Leading and motivating your team — balancing people management (around 90% of the role) with hands-on technical support when required.

About You

• Proven experience within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
• Strong leadership and people management skills – able to coach, motivate and develop your team.
• Solid understanding of maintenance systems, reliability, and engineering processes .
• A proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic production setting.
• Excellent communicator, capable of collaborating across departments and influencing outcomes.
