Job summary

Stagecoach Kilmarnock is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a skilled team at our modern depot. You’ll own fleet maintenance, engineering operations and facilities, and help shape the evolution of our fleet including electric vehicles while ensuring safety and compliance.

Based at MacKinlay Place in Kilmarnock, you’ll manage 84 service buses and 5 training vehicles, drive day-to-day operations, resource planning, stock control and procurement, and develop your people for future

Qualifications

• Engineering experience in bus/coach/rail/plant/automotive sectors.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Safety-first, proactive mindset.
• Experience managing compliance, budgets, inventory and health & safety practices.
• Passion for high standards in vehicle performance and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead team of engineers, technicians, cleaners and apprentices to keep fleet safe and road-ready.
• Manage maintenance and presentation of 84 service buses and 5 training vehicles.
• Oversee depot plant and building maintenance, including compliance and health & safety.
• Manage day-to-day operations, resource planning, stock control and procurement.
• Coach and develop team members with focus on continuous improvement and talent planning.
• Collaborate with Engineering Director and gain exposure to regional projects.

Looking to lead a skilled engineering team and shape the future of fleet maintenance?

We're looking for an experienced and hands‑on Engineering Manager to lead our talented team at Stagecoach Kilmarnock. This is an opportunity to lead a skilled team within a modern depot environment, taking ownership of fleet maintenance, engineering operations and facilities. You'll play a key role in supporting fleet evolution, including electric vehicles and depot infrastructure, ensuring safety, compliance, and capability are built into day-today operations. You'll balance maintaining today's fleet with developing your people and facilities for the future, ensuring Stagecoach continues to deliver safe, reliable services.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading a team of engineers, technicians, cleaners, and apprentices to ensure our fleet is safe, clean, and road-ready
• Managing the maintenance and presentation of 84 service buses and 5 training vehicles
• Overseeing depot plant and building maintenance, including compliance and health & safety
• Managing day-to-day operations, resource planning, stock control, and procurement
• Coaching and developing team members, with a focus on continuous improvement and talent planning
• Working closely with the Engineering Director and gaining exposure to regional/strategic projects
• Maintaining standards in line with DVSA regulations and Stagecoach's standards

What we're looking for:

• Engineering experience in a relevant sector such as bus, coach, HGV, rail, plant, or automotive
• Strong leadership and team management skills, you may already be in a managerial role, or ready for your next step
• A proactive, organised, and safety-first mindset
• Experience managing compliance, budgets, inventory, and health & safety practices
• Passion for high standards in both vehicle performance and presentation
