Job description

Job Title: Building Maintenance Technician

The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining all building structures, fabric, and finishes within the Community sites and associated buildings related to this role.

The post holder will support the Community Engineering Department and other directorates within Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) by providing a multiskilled service. They will ensure the effective maintenance of the Trust’s building and technical infrastructure, adhering to the highest professional standards in building and engineering. The post involves working closely with engineering teams, Capital Development, and Environment teams.

Responsibilities include:

1. Implementing the Hospital’s Health & Safety policies and protocols effectively.
2. Supporting the Team Leader/Manager in ensuring the daily efficient and safe operation of all building and engineering plant on site, following health and safety policies.
3. Carrying out daily maintenance of building and engineering plant, attending to breakdowns, performing repairs, and restoring units to service promptly.
4. Fault finding on electric motors and control gear, activating changeover or safe isolation of plant during malfunctions or breakdowns.
5. Performing minor mechanical work such as connecting/disconnecting belt drives, pulleys, and couplings.
6. Maintaining and operating plant and equipment efficiently, instructing others as needed, diagnosing and repairing faults, and sharing knowledge with team members.

Department Overview

The Essential department manages all non-clinical support services at GSTT, ensuring effective, efficient, and safe hospital functions. The Building Maintenance and Improvement Department handles reactive and planned maintenance, minor improvements, refurbishment, replacement programs, delegated capital projects, and services to third-party organizations via SLAs. It collaborates with Capital Projects, Engineering, Operations Teams, and end-users to deliver these services.
