Job summary

Benefact Group in Gloucester is seeking an Engineering Lead to balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership and line management. You’ll drive high-quality delivery and ensure products meet Engineering Excellence standards and business outcomes.

You’ll set technical direction, coach engineers, embed best practices, and ensure secure, scalable, maintainable platforms and apps, working with Product, Architecture, QE, and delivery leadership.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering expertise with modern languages and frameworks.
• Experience designing complex technical solutions with high quality outcomes.
• Knowledge of secure coding, architecture, and governance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise, driving software design, development, code quality, debugging, tech debt reduction, and delivery planning.
• Define and govern engineering strategy, architecture, and best practices, ensuring scalable, secure, compliant, cost-effective solutions.
• Lead, coach, and develop engineering teams, fostering a high-performing culture and supporting recruitment, mentoring, capability growth, and performance management.
• Drive delivery excellence and operational maturity, overseeing prioritisation, CI/CD, DevOps practices, platform reliability, SaaS integrations, and continuous improvement.
• Manage stakeholders, technical assets, and third-party partners, ensuring governance, security, lifecycle management, and adherence to standards.
