Job summary

UCAS is seeking a Software Development Team Lead in Cheltenham to provide line management and technical leadership for a team of software engineers. The role combines people leadership with hands-on development across a cloud-based stack and modern frameworks.

You will drive delivery, ensure skills and capacity match demand, and coach engineers to align with the organisation's strategy. The role supports a hybrid working model and rewards performance with professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Educated to Degree level in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent professional experience.
• Significant experience of leading and managing at team and technical level.
• Substantial experience of leading software development within multiple frameworks using: C#, Web API, MVC, Front end frameworks (e.g. Angular), REST.
• SQL with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
• Automated tests and deployments.
• Visual Studio, Git, Atlassian tools; Confluence, JIRA, Bamboo.
• Continuous integration and deployments.
• Cloud based solutions, specifically AWS.
• Be able to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Providing Line Management for a team of engineers, including performance management and objectives tracking.
• Recruitment and onboarding of new resources.
• Tracking employee engagement and contributing to improvement initiatives.
• Leading and motivating the team to achieve high performance.
• Ensuring clear direction and purpose for the team; setting quality, accuracy and timeliness standards.
• Providing senior technical leadership and innovation to a team of software engineers.
