Job summary

Wise is seeking an Engineering Lead for the Send for Partners team in London to drive technical strategy and hands‑on leadership across engineering, product, and partnerships. You will guide architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to scale our payment network with partner banks worldwide.

You’ll translate product roadmaps into robust technical designs, promote engineering excellence, and ensure delivery quality while maintaining long‑term health of systems.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and mentoring high‑performing engineering teams and growing senior ICs.
• Technical leadership & system design expertise: scalable, distributed systems, event‑based architectures and microservices; high‑impact architectural decisions.
• Product mindset – consider customer impact, not just technical implementation.
• Leadership through empowerment with context, trust and clear direction.
• Advocates best coding practices, continuous delivery and code reviews.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across teams and stakeholders.
• Bias to action and comfort with ambiguity while maintaining quality and compliance.
• Experience with JVM platform (Java/Kotlin/Spring Boot).

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach engineers, own hiring, mentoring and performance to grow technical capability and delivery impact.
• Translate product strategy into technical roadmaps that move KPIs.
• Guide architecture and technical design decisions, ensuring scalable systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support bank integrations and expand our payment network.
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring and best practices.
• Understand and contribute to team systems deeply enough to be hands‑on when needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve the Send product, balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term technical health.
• Have an overview of the broader Wise Platform squad, sharing learnings and shaping how we build software company‑wide.
