Job summary

McLaren Racing offers a 13-month Engineering Internship starting July 2027, designed to contribute to on-track performance while exposing you to how a Formula 1 team operates. The placement spans Aerodynamics, Design, Performance, and Racing, with assessment days at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking and a multi-stage selection process.

You will work on meaningful projects under guidance from senior engineers, develop new skills, and join a high-performing team.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Engineering, Mathematics or a scientific discipline and minimum 2:1 classification.
  • General computing skills and software knowledge relevant to your placement area.
  • A practical approach to engineering and strong problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for motorsport; previous motorsport experience is welcome but not essential.

Job Description

Our 13-month Engineering Internship offers you the opportunity to contribute to McLaren Racing’s performance while gaining first-hand experience of how a Formula 1 team operates. The placement will begin in July 2027 and sit within one of four areas:

  • Aerodynamics - including CFD, Wind Tunnel Tech, Aero Design and Aero Operations
  • Design - including Bodywork, Monocoque, Pit Equipment, Suspension, Systems, Transmission and Process Improvement
  • Performance -including Competitor Analysis, Performance Analysis, Simulation Engineering and Vehicle Dynamics
  • Racing -including Strategy, Pitstops & Operational Capability

Applications will close on Wednesday 16th September. There will be a second round of assessment sent on the Friday 18th September to be completed by the Monday 21st September.

The intern assessment days will be at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking on Wednesday 14th October, Thursday 15th October and Friday 16th October 2026. If you are selected to attend the assessment day, you will be notified the week prior.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • You will be completing a placement year as part of a degree in Engineering, Mathematics or a scientific discipline and be ready to begin in July 2027.
  • You will be working towards a minimum 2:1 degree classification or equivalent.
  • General computing skills and software knowledge relevant to your chosen placement area.
  • A practical approach to engineering and strong problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for motorsport; previous motorsport experience is welcome but not essential.
