Job summary

McLaren Automotive, based in Woking, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for its Motorsport division. You will join the systems engineering team reporting to the Principal Controls Engineer, developing, validating, delivering and supporting complete vehicle control systems across GT3/GT4 programs and endurance racing.

The role requires a degree in Engineering/CS, model-based coding in MATLAB/Simulink, and experience with powertrain and automotive network protocols (CAN/LIN/UDS/Ethernet).

Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree level in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Model-based application software coding in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with powertrain or transmission control systems development.
  • HIL and in-vehicle testing and validation.
  • Excellent knowledge of automotive network protocols CAN, LIN, UDS and Ethernet.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of mechatronic control systems.
  • Data mining, analysis and dissemination.
  • Trackside support for development testing and customer events.
  • Support dynamometer/test bed rigging and calibration activities.
  • Harvest mathematical modelling techniques to describe vehicle, powertrain and actuator behaviour.
  • Develop technical capabilities and tools as required by the business.
  • Support the analysis of field issues and provide relevant solutions.

What to Expect

As the Senior Systems Engineer you will be a key part of our systems engineering team within our motorsport divison. In this role you will be reporting directly to the Principal Controls Engineer. You will be a key member of the Motorsport Engineering team responsible for the development, validation, delivery and support of the complete vehicle control systems used across the whole range of McLaren Motorsport Vehicles, which include and not limited to GT3, GT4, programs, endurance racing and the Solus program.


What You'll Do


  • Support the development of mechatronic control systems

  • Data mining, analysis and dissemination

What You'll Bring


  • Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Computer Science Discipline or similiar

  • Model-based application software coding in MATLAB/Simulink

  • Ability to code and willingness to learn different coding languages if requirements dictate

  • “Can-do” attitude and ability to work under pressure

  • Personal interest in electromechanical systems and engines would be desirable

  • Previous experience in a Motorsport or OEM environment preferred but not essential

  • Interest in Electronic Controls Systems and Automotive EE Architectures

  • Experience of Powertrain or transmission control systems development.

  • HIL and in-vehicle testing and validation.

  • Vehicle-based software calibration

  • Excellent knowledge of Automotive network protocols, e.g. CAN, LIN, UDS, and Ethernet

  • Understanding of vehicle-level system integration in terms of hardware and software
