Job description

Engineering Apprentice - Mechanical Design Technician

Launch your engineering career as a Mechanical Design Apprentice at Biffa.

The Engineering Design Technician Apprenticeship is a 4-year program where you will learn how to produce engineering designs and drawings for components, structures, and systems used in industrial and commercial construction.

This role is based in Milton Keynes, where you will spend 80% of your time learning on the job and 20% studying virtually with Train'd Up.

Your starting salary of £25,792 will increase each year of your apprenticeship, depending on your progress.

Upon successful completion, you will gain a formal and recognized Level 3 qualification. Graduates will also have the experience and qualifications to obtain EngTech status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Role overview:

You will produce designs and drawings for structures, piping, electrical systems, control and instrumentation systems, and mechanical components used across Biffa sites.

Although primarily office-based, travel will be required.

The division support:

Within Resources & Energy, we focus on waste treatment, recycling, and disposal, providing treatment services for recoverable materials and landfill for non-recyclable waste.

Core Responsibilities:

• Produce detailed mechanical drawings or models in accordance with industry standards.

• Interpret technical specifications and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Review drawings for accuracy and compliance.
• Generate and evaluate design ideas and concepts.
• Ensure designs are cost-effective and practical.

Requirements:

• GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent.
• No higher or equivalent qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level.
