Job summary

Milton Keynes University Hospital is seeking a part-time Ophthalmic Imaging Technician to join its Optometry department. The role involves clinical testing, ophthalmic photography, and supporting the team in a busy outpatient eye clinic. Ideal candidates will have experience in Optometry or Ophthalmology and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

Department: Optometry, Eye Clinic

Band 4 £26,530 - £29,114 Per annum, pro rata

Hours: 29.00 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

The eye clinic, which is shortly moving to Lloyds Court Central Milton Keynes, is a friendly environment where multi-professional working is encouraged. At Milton Keynes University Hospital, our Optometry department, consisting of Optometrists and Ophthalmic Technicians, provides invaluable support to our Consultants, Medical staff, Orthoptists, and Nurses within the busy outpatient eye clinic.

We are looking to recruit a part-time enthusiastic Ophthalmic Imaging Technician with excellent communication skills to join our team. The role involves providing clinical testing of visual fields, ophthalmic photography, Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), and corneal topography.

We are actively involved in teaching and clinical audit. Previous experience in diagnostic Optometry/Ophthalmology work is an advantage. This role would suit a hospital-based Ophthalmic Technician or a community-based Optical Assistant interested in gaining extended clinical skills.

Interview date: Week commencing 16/06/2025

Responsibilities include:
  1. Carrying out Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans.
  2. Conducting anterior segment imaging and fundus photography with the Optos widefield camera.
  3. Undertaking visual fields assessment using the Humphrey Visual Fields Analyzer.
  4. Testing and recording vision using sight test charts – Snellen and LogMAR.
  5. Performing administrative and clerical duties as required.
  6. Managing clinic operations in the absence of the Lead Ophthalmic Technician, including staff sickness or unforeseen absences.
  7. Liaising with IT and EBME departments regarding equipment issues and technical updates.
  8. Coordinating with external equipment providers for technical support and training.
  9. Gathering information for audits and presenting findings at the annual Optometry Department Audit.
  10. Supporting colleagues' personal development within the Ophthalmic Imaging team.
