The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will provide expert technical support for maintenance, servicing, and improvement of building services across the Council’s housing portfolio. You will work with internal teams, contractors, and residents to manage and deliver responsive and planned works, from domestic heating to complex commercial plant.

You will ensure engineering services meet all safety and regulatory standards while providing value and excellent service to residents. Your responsibilities include managing disrepair cases, contractor performance, and representing the council on technical matters, including court appearances.

  • Conduct inspections and specify repairs for domestic and commercial systems, ensuring cost-effective and minimally disruptive solutions.
  • Produce detailed technical reports and specifications using council systems.
  • Oversee and monitor service and maintenance contracts for compliance and performance.
  • Support legal disrepair cases and represent the council in court when necessary.
  • Supervise contractors on-site, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality work.
About You

We seek a qualified and skilled engineer with:

  • A City & Guilds or HNC in Building Services Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • ACS Gas Certification and Unvented Hot Water Systems qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical services in housing and commercial settings.
  • Hands-on experience managing large-scale maintenance projects.
  • Confidence in preparing technical reports, liaising with contractors, and delivering excellent resident service.
