Job summary

Manchester Energy Network is seeking an exceptional Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day operations and performance of the Manchester Energy Network, a wholly owned Council company delivering heat and power to key city buildings. The role supports decarbonisation plans and net-zero ambitions for Manchester by 2038.

Qualifications

• Significant experience of managing complex operational services, programmes or business activities.
• A strong track record of improving operational performance and delivering measurable outcomes.
• Experience of managing multiple priorities, competing deadlines and complex stakeholder relationships.
• Strong commercial awareness and experience of working with contractors, suppliers, consultants or delivery partners to achieve high performance and value for money.
• Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Monitor operational performance, identify risks and opportunities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prepare and present operational reports, business cases and briefing papers to Board members, the Council as Shareholder and other senior stakeholders.
• Support utilities procurement and pricing arrangements to ensure value for money and long-term sustainability.
• Work with the Manchester Energy Network Board, internal such as the Council’s Corporate Energy, Capital Programmes and Zero Carbon Teams and Manchester Energy Network’s operating and maintenance partner Vital Energi.
