About the role

As a member of the EMEA Solutions team at Energy Exemplar, the focus of this role is to support our power trading customer base and prospects. The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of expertise in fundamental market modelling and a deep understanding of trading operations. The candidate must be fluent in “trader speak” and possess a solid grasp of how traders utilize market insights and modelling outputs to make real-time and strategic decisions.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with trading organizations, helping them unlock the full potential of Energy Exemplar’s PLEXOS software and shaping the future of energy trading in the EMEA region.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Engagement and Model Delivery: Act as a trusted advisor to power trading customers, helping them build and refine models that directly support trading decisions.
• Lead requirements gathering sessions with trading teams to understand business goals and decision-making workflows.
• Design and implement innovative modelling approaches using PLEXOS, tailored to trading-specific needs such as price forecasting, congestion analysis, and dispatch optimization.
• Provide guidance on industry best practices for market modelling in trading contexts.
• Analyze modelling outputs with customers to ensure they align with trader expectations and market observations, recommending adjustments to data or assumptions as needed.
• Develop, test, and calibrate models to deliver accurate and actionable insights for trading desks.
• Train trading teams to effectively use PLEXOS for decision support and strategy development.

• Business Development and Thought Leadership: Partner with the sales team to engage with prospective trading customers, demonstrating how PLEXOS can address their specific challenges and enhance trading operations.
• Create Proof of Concept (PoC) studies that showcase the value of PLEXOS for pre-trade analysis, risk management, and portfolio optimization.
• Deliver tailored presentations, technical demonstrations, and training sessions for trading-focused audiences.
• Collaborate with the product team to provide feedback on market needs and contribute to enhancements in PLEXOS for trading applications.
• Conduct market research and provide thought leadership on emerging trends in power trading, generating insights that can be shared with customers and at industry events.
• Develop original studies on power trading topics, starting with Energy Exemplar's simulation-ready datasets, and present findings in webinars and conferences.

This is a customer-facing role, and therefore successful candidates will not only have strong modelling capabilities and domain expertise, but also have excellent communication skills, be outgoing, professional, driven and able to multi-task in a dynamic and often changing environment.

The role can be based out of our London office, or remote working. The role also offers the opportunity for international travel across the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

Requirements

• Knowledge of electricity markets and power trading
• A tertiary degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, Operations Research or similar degree. Ideally the candidate should have specialization in Electricity Systems (and/or Markets).
• Knowledge of PLEXOS or other mathematically based optimization tools
• 5-7 years’ experience in energy markets with a strong understanding of energy economics and market fundamentals, energy systems operation and/or engineering
• Experience in energy market supply and demand modelling via optimization/unit commitment (Preferably via commercial tools such as PLEXOS, BID3, Antaras, SDDP, PROMOD, etc)
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal presence and skills - demonstrated ability to build rapport
• Proficient with corporate productivity and web presentation tools
• Experience with Stack Modelling
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a focus on quality
