Band 5 Staff Nurses – Endoscopy Department

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Endoscopy department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). The department is a 5‑procedure room unit offering diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (ERCP, colonoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and EBUS) and is beginning bowel screening. The team is progressive, motivated and highly experienced, and keen to support staff development skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide unit cover in the absence of the unit manager.
  • Deliver 4‑day service and work full‑time hours within a 4‑day schedule.
  • Provide an out‑of‑hours on‑call service covering emergency procedures.
  • Support new staff in clinical development and training to become an endoscopy nurse.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge within the speciality and demonstrate competence in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Required Skills and Attributes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to formulate and verbalise views, anticipate and forward‑plan decisions, and put viewpoints across as well as take direction.
  • Patient‑focused, putting quality and safety at the forefront of decision‑making.
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm, and recognise stress in self and others and support colleagues through stressful situations.
  • Flexible, able to work all shifts including rotation to night duty and adaptable to changes in shift pattern.
  • Strong reflective practice and good listener, communicates well.
