Job summary

Protocol Education Limited is seeking a passionate Youth Mentor to support SEND and SEMH needs in Shrewsbury. You will mentor students 1:1 and in small groups, helping them build confidence and social skills while collaborating with teachers and families.

The role focuses on emotional regulation, resilience, and creating an inclusive learning environment to help students overcome barriers and progress educationally.

Qualifications

• A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND and SEMH needs.
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to build trust with young people from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience with SEND or SEMH students in mentoring, youth work, education, or support roles (desirable).
• Empathy, patience and resilience in challenging situations.
• Positive and motivating approach that inspires young people to succeed.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to young people with SEND and SEMH needs.
• Support students in developing confidence, resilience and social skills.
• Help individuals overcome barriers to learning and personal development.
• Encourage positive decision-making, goal setting and self-belief.
• Create a safe, supportive and inclusive environment that promotes wellbeing.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals to implement personalised support plans.
• Deliver targeted interventions and activities focused on emotional regulation and behaviour management.
