Job summary

West Somerset College is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support learning in our classrooms, promote independence and help students reach their potential.

You will adapt resources for diverse needs, including those with SEND, assist with lesson delivery and safeguarding, and help maintain a safe, inclusive environment.

This role requires a proactive, team-focused approach and strong communication with teachers, pupils and families to ensure each learner progresses.

Qualifications

• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE C/4+ in English and Maths).
• Experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable.
• Proactive, compassionate and adaptable approach to supporting students.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students in lessons and small groups to help them stay on track and build independence.
• Adapting activities and materials to suit a range of learning needs, including those with SEND.
• Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing across the school.
• Preparing learning resources and assisting with classroom admin.
• Tracking student progress and feeding into lesson planning and reviews.
• Building strong, respectful relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
• Upholding safeguarding and wellbeing as a top priority.
