Job summary

Balfor Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support secondary pupils with barriers to learning in a dedicated educational setting in Southend-on-Sea. The role focuses on 1:1 support, small group work and collaboration with teachers to deliver engaging learning activities.

The ideal candidate will have at least 6 months UK school experience, DBS Update service registration, and strong communication skills. A supportive team environment and ongoing training are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months' experience in a UK school or education setting.
• Experience with SEMH, challenging behaviour, Autism and/or ADHD desirable.
• DBS registered onto the Update service.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support and assist small groups of secondary-aged pupils.
• Support pupils facing barriers to learning and behavioural challenges.
• Assist the class teacher with engaging, differentiated activities.
• Help maintain a positive, structured learning environment.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• Support pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Assist with behaviour management using positive strategies.
• Encourage pupils to engage with learning and develop confidence and independence.
• Collaborate with school team to meet individual pupil needs.
• Safeguard and promote welfare of all children.
