Job summary

Oakmoor Recruitment is seeking an experienced Functional Skills English Tutor in Stoke-on-Trent to deliver engaging FS English programmes for learners aiming for recognised qualifications.

The role is permanent, full-time, with hours Mon–Fri. Starting salary is £30,000 per annum, with enhanced pay for those with the right qualifications and track record. You will support learners toward further education and employment while maintaining inclusive teaching environments.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching FS English up to Level 2.
• A recognised teaching or training qualification (ideally L5 or above).
• A Level 3 qualification in English (minimum).
• Strong lesson planning, assessment and learner-management skills.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Experience supporting young people with a range of needs or barriers to learning.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
• The confidence to adapt your teaching style to meet individual learner needs.
• Strong communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
• Genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Functional Skills English from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2.
• Plan and deliver creative, engaging lessons tailored to different abilities and learning needs.
• Motivate learners who may have experienced barriers or disengagement from traditional education.
• Assess and monitor learner progress, achievement, attendance and engagement.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records.
