Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a Deaf Teaching Assistant in Doncaster to support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils and help them access learning. The role is full-time and long-term, with weekly PAYE payments and a focus on inclusive education.

You will use BSL/SSE to facilitate communication, collaborate with teachers and specialists, and promote independence and confidence in learners. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.

Qualifications

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
• BSL qualification (Level 1, 2, 3 or above) highly desirable.
• Experience using British Sign Language in educational or support settings.
• Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children and young people.
• Relevant qualifications in Education, SEND, Support Work, Health & Social Care, or related fields are welcomed.
• Candidates with lived experience within the deaf community are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in lessons and throughout the school day
• Assisting with communication using British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE), or other communication strategies where required
• Helping pupils access learning materials and classroom activities
• Working closely with teachers, speech and language professionals, and specialist staff
• Encouraging independence, confidence, and social development
• Promoting an inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive
