Job summary

Protocol Education is currently recruiting for a BSL Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND setting in South Shields. The role supports pupils who are Deaf or have hearing impairments, using British Sign Language to facilitate access to learning and participation.

You'll work with teachers and the SEND team to provide 1:1 and small-group support throughout the school day, promoting inclusion, independence and positive pupil progress.

Qualifications

• BSL skills and experience working with Deaf/ SEND learners.
• Ability to communicate clearly with pupils, teachers and families.
• Patience, warmth and adaptability in a SEND setting.

Responsibilities

• Use British Sign Language to communicate with pupils.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support during lessons.
• Help pupils access lessons and the wider curriculum.
• Support pupils to build independence and confidence in communication.
