Job summary

The Deaf Academy is seeking a dedicated Communication Support Worker to enable Deaf students with complex needs to access learning and achieve qualifications. You will support across Level 1–3 programmes, help students access teaching, and contribute to their independence and confidence.

Join a specialist multidisciplinary team focused on inclusive learning, collaboration with staff, and promoting student progress through EHCP processes and quality assurance. DBS and safeguarding are required.

Qualifications

• BSL Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
• Signature Level 3 Professional Communication Support qualification or equivalent.
• GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent qualifications.
• Experience supporting Deaf learners in educational or workplace settings.
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture, Deaf identity and the Deaf community.
• Knowledge of SEND, EHCPs and inclusive educational practice.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including note-taking.

Responsibilities

• Enabling learning and achievement across Level 1–3 programmes.
• Making communication accessible across learning, community and workplace settings.
• Supporting successful transitions into employment through internships and preparation for adulthood.
• Mentoring less experienced Communication Support Workers.
• Contributing to annual reviews, EHCP processes and learner-centred planning.
• Contributing to quality assurance and development of communications support across the CSW team.
• Collaborating with teaching staff to create multimodal learning environments.
