Job summary

By The Sign is seeking a Communication Support Worker to help Deaf learners access learning, training, workshops and community activities. You will provide communication support in BSL and facilitate clear exchanges between learners, tutors and peers.

Role requires at least BSL Level 3 (or working towards), knowledge of Deaf culture, and excellent communication skills. You will work both independently and as part of a team, maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide communication support using British Sign Language (BSL).

  • Assist with note-taking and reinforcement of key learning points where appropriate.
  • Promote learner independence and confidence.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with tutors, trainers and other support staff.
  • Support learners during assessments, where permitted by awarding body regulations.
  • Attend planning meetings and briefings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records where necessary.

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Qualified CSW or relevant support experience.

  • Experience supporting learners with additional needs.
