Job summary

Ace Academics Consultancy seeks an experienced Communication Support Worker with strong British Sign Language to assist Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a South East London college setting. The role involves in-class and 1:1 support, ensuring full participation and accessibility across lessons and campus activities.

You will adapt communication methods to individual needs, work with tutors, and help create an engaging, inclusive learning environment for diverse learners.

Qualifications

• BSL Level 3 (or working towards it) – Level 3 applicants considered.
• Proven experience supporting Deaf students in college/educational settings.
• Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of inclusive learning and accessibility in FE settings.
• Genuine passion for helping young people reach their potential.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear communication support using BSL, lip-reading, and note-taking as appropriate.
• Interpret lectures, discussions, and group work to ensure understanding and participation.
• Collaborate with tutors and support staff to adapt lesson delivery for Deaf learners.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding standards at all times.
• Foster independence, confidence, and inclusion for students with hearing loss.
