Job summary

Autism Plus is a Yorkshire charity supporting adults and young people with autism, learning disabilities and mental health conditions. The Complex Care Support Workers provide practical and emotional support in the client’s home, aligned to Care Plans, with a focus on dignity and person-centred approaches.

The role involves helping with daily tasks, personal care, and ongoing communication while working as part of a team to empower individuals within their local community.

Qualifications

• Assist individuals with complex needs or mental health issues in their home per Care Plans.
• Provide positive behaviour support for challenging behaviour using appropriate strategies.
• Assist with household tasks, cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal care and paperwork.
• Provide emotional support and listen to concerns.
• Understand and adapt communication to individual needs (sounds, tones, body language).
• Offer unconditional positive regard, respecting privacy and dignity at all times.
• Support the Clinical Team in their duties.
• Be a role model and help uncover shared interests.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with complex needs/mental health issues at home according to Care Plans.
• Use appropriate strategies to support positive behaviour and address frustration.
• Help with daily tasks: cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal care and paperwork.
• Provide emotional support and actively listen to concerns.
• Tailor communication to each person’s needs and preferences.
• Maintain dignity and privacy at all times for those supported.
• Assist the Clinical Team in clinical duties as needed.
• Build rapport by becoming a trusted companion and identifying shared interests.
