Job summary

Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Employee Relations Specialist to support the ER and Engagement Manager within the HR department. You will assist with policy administration, intake processes, and investigations, coordinating interviews and reporting findings.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of employment laws and regulations is required.
• Progressive experience in employee relations or HR is preferred.
• Experience planning and conducting investigations and interviews is essential.
• Experience delivering effective training is preferred.
• Ability to handle confidential information with ethical standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills are necessary.
• Proficiency with MS Office and HRIS/case management tools is needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with HR policy administration and intake for employee relations matters.
• Collaborate with ER Manager to address workplace disputes and misconduct.
• Investigate allegations and conduct fact-finding interviews; present findings and recommendations.
• Communicate investigation status to claimants, respondents, and stakeholders.
• Monitor trends from investigations and provide data to ER Manager.
• Assist with preparation of performance actions and grievances.
• Design and deliver employee relations training for staff and managers.
• Conduct exit interviews and provide data to inform improvements.
• Maintain accuracy of employee relations records and back-up ER Manager as needed.
