Job description

Are you an experienced ER Advisor with strong employee relations knowledge and experience of working within a complex, operational environment?

We’re partnering with a leading organisation to recruit an ER Advisor to join their established HR team. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll provide practical ER advice and support to managers, manage a varied caseload and work closely with trade unions.

You’ll need to be confident managing ER matters independently, with a strong understanding of employment law, policies and procedures and how these are applied in practice.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Managing a broad range of ER cases from start to finish, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance and capability matters.
  • Providing clear, practical advice to managers on complex employee relations issues.
  • Supporting and leading investigations, ensuring fair, consistent and compliant outcomes.
  • Working effectively within a unionised environment, building constructive relationships with trade union representatives.
  • Advising managers on the interpretation and application of HR policies, procedures and employment legislation.
  • Coaching managers to build their confidence and capability in handling ER matters.
  • Supporting the review and development of policies and procedures, ensuring they remain practical, consistent and legally compliant.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across ER processes and ways of working.
What we’re looking for:
  • Strong experience within an ER Advisor, HR Advisor or similar employee relations-focused role.
  • Excellent ER knowledge with demonstrable experience managing complex casework independently.
  • Previous experience of working with trade unions and within a unionised environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Good experience of working with and applying HR policies and procedures.
  • Confident working with managers and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, operational environment.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualified, or working towards, would be advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as occasional travel may be required.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced ER professional who wants a role with plenty of responsibility and exposure, working as part of a supportive HR team within a large and complex organisation.
