Job summary

Academics is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a well-established primary school in Monmouthshire, starting September 2026. You will support pupils needing extra help with learning and confidence, working with individuals and small groups on phonics, reading, writing and maths, alongside the class teacher to tailor strategies.

The role suits patient, approachable candidates, with or without prior TA experience, eager to develop in a primary school setting.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in a school setting is desirable.
• Interest in helping pupils needing additional support with learning.
• Knowledge of primary curriculum basics (phonics, reading, writing, maths).
• Ability to adapt activities for individuals and small groups.
• Calm, patient, and encouraging approach.
• Good communication and relationship-building with pupils and staff.
• Strong organisational and classroom management skills.
• Enhanced DBS (Update Service) or willingness to obtain one.
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
• Two recent professional references.

Responsibilities

• Provide additional support to pupils who need help with learning or confidence in the classroom.
• Work with individual pupils and small groups on phonics, reading, writing and maths.
• Collaborate with the class teacher to identify needs and strategies.
• Encourage pupil participation and help children become more independent in learning.
