Job summary

Academics is recruiting a One-to-One Support Assistant for a primary school in Torfaen, starting September 2026. You will provide focused, individual support to a pupil who requires extra help to access the curriculum and participate in lessons.

You will work with the class teacher to tailor activities in phonics, reading, writing and maths, helping the pupil develop independence and confidence while ensuring inclusion in everyday school life.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children on a one-to-one basis.
• A genuine commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
• Ability to adapt your approach to meet the needs of an individual pupil.
• Patience, consistency and a positive attitude when supporting children.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with teaching staff.
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
• Two recent professional references.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, individual support to a pupil to access the curriculum.
• Work closely with the class teacher to understand the pupil's needs.
• Assist with phonics, reading, writing and maths activities.
• Help the pupil develop independence and confidence and stay included in lessons.
