Historic England offers a fantastic opportunity to join as an Emerging Talent Trainee Placement - Heritage Engagement Assistant.
*This is a part-time 28.5 hours/week, 8-week paid placement with West Midlands Heritage Trust. The salary is the National Living Wage. The role can be carried out fully remotely with an initial team visit or through one day in the Worcester office. This opportunity may lead to a 6-month Step Up Placement for further development.
Future Talent Programme
Provides paid opportunities for underrepresented groups in heritage, including Black, Asian, or ethnic minorities, disabled people, and those disadvantaged socio-economically. The placements are for 8 weeks with potential progression to 6-month placements.
Purpose of the Placement
You will help uncover stories of at-risk historic buildings across the West Midlands by conducting background research, collecting photos, analyzing planning records, and assessing social and economic data. Your work will contribute to reports and prioritization for future projects.
Who are West Midlands Heritage Trust?
Established in 2025, the Trust operates in the West Midlands, rescuing and preserving listed buildings. It has completed over 16 projects and is a registered charity. More info at https://wmhbt.org.uk/
What you will be doing
Researching historic buildings, collecting data and photos, analyzing records, and preparing reports to help prioritize buildings for regeneration.
What will you learn?
You will develop skills using the Skills Builder Universal Framework, including evaluating and setting goals for your essential skills, with ongoing reflection and planning for your career development.
Events and Expectations
A Welcome Event will be held in London on 24 July 2025. You may also contribute to promotional activities or case studies.
