Job summary

SGN is seeking an Emergency Gas Responder to join our field team covering Aldershot and surrounding areas. You will work independently in homes and businesses to identify gas leaks, speak with customers confidently, and maintain equipment and PPE.

Starting in October 2026 with a base salary of £36,300 per annum, rising to £40,400 after probation. Standby and overtime can increase earnings. We offer a pension, life assurance, HolidayPlus, Virtual GP, EAP, and various discounts.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service and communication skills for public interactions.
• Able to work in homes, businesses and outdoor environments safely.
• Willingness to work a 24/7 rota with some out-of-hours pay.
• Full UK manual driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Identify gas leaks in homes, businesses and outdoor areas.
• Engage with customers with confidence and listening skills.
• Resolve customer situations to ensure a 10/10 service experience.
• Use gas services knowledge to solve complex safety scenarios.
• Attend assigned gas escapes within regulated deadlines.
• Maintain van, tools and PPE to stay compliant and safe.

Base salary: £36.3k per annum (increase to £40.4k upon successful completion of probationary period)

• Working independently in homes, businesses and outside to identify gas leaks and keep people safe
• Engaging with customers across our network, speaking to them with confidence and knowledge, active listening and understanding their service issues
• Resolving customer situations for a 10/10 customer service experience every time
• Using your ever-growing knowledge of gas services to problem solve complex situations and make situations safe for people, property and the environment
• Attending assigned gas escapes within a regulated deadline to ensure our service is robust, effective and customer-focused
• Ensuring your van is well-maintained and equipped, carrying the equipment, tools and PPE required to achieve results and keep yourself safe
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night - standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours

You will need...

• A friendly and approachable attitude with excellent customer service skills, as you will be dealing with members of the public
• A current ACS qualification, CCN1 or CESPI, and ideally MET1 to 4 (although this is not essential to apply for the role)
• You thrive in an environment involving public interaction, adapting to situations and remaining calm during situations
• You are curious, always wanting to learn and develop your skills. You seek knowledge from others and like to push and challenge yourself.
• You are flexible with working as part of a team rota that covers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means out of hours and weekend working is standard. This is managed through a transparent rota and additional compensation is paid
• A full and valid UK manual driving licence is essential
