Job summary

SGN is hiring Trainee Gas Engineers to learn on the job with on-site support and team-based work across several locations in the SGN network. Starting salary is £30,300 per year, rising to £33,700 after successful probation, with overtime and standby enhancements.

No CV required; the role is designed to develop skills from day one, with full training and opportunities to advance as you gain experience in gas service and mains repairs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support engineers on site and learn from them daily during gas service and mains repair work.
• Excavation and laying and repairing gas pipes in public and private highways as part of a team.
• Standby and overtime opportunities to support gas supply 24/7.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools to ensure equipment is ready for jobs.

• Support engineers on site and learning from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities
• Excavation, digging in the public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes so you will work in various outdoor environments safely and as part of a team
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night - standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours
• You will maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring your team has all the equipment to do your job safely and efficiently

We keep our customers safe and warm. We are on hand to attend and repair gas escapes 24/7, 365 days a year.

Will be required to be clean shaven:

As part of our commitment to the personal safety of our employees you will be required to be clean shaven, and pass a face fit test, to wear tight fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus. This is for personal protection to ensure you don’t breathe in any harmful substances, whilst carrying out critical work within our communities.

Holds a valid UK driver’s licence:

A full, valid UK driver’s licence is essential for this role.

Due to operational response times, you must be based within a commutable distance from the desired locations.
