Job summary

SGN is recruiting for a field-based gas engineer to identify leaks, interact with customers, and keep gas supplies safe and warm across our network in the UK. You’ll work in homes and businesses, responding to incidents with confidence and technical accuracy while maintaining safety standards.

The role offers a base salary of £36.3k with an increase to £40.4k after probation, plus standby and overtime. Benefits include a 6% pension contribution (12% total), enhanced family leave, life assurance,

Qualifications

• Current ACS qualification, CCN1 or CESPI, and ideally MET1 to 4.
• A full and valid UK manual driving licence is essential.
• Willing to work as part of a 24/7 rota; out-of-hours and weekend work is normal with compensation.
• You thrive in public interaction and safety-focused environments.

Responsibilities

• Identify gas leaks in homes, businesses and outside to keep people safe.
• Engage with customers across our network with confidence and listening.
• Resolve customer situations to deliver a 10/10 service experience.
• Use your growing gas services knowledge to solve complex situations and ensure safety.
• Attend assigned gas escapes within regulated deadlines to keep service robust.
• Ensure your van is maintained and equipped with PPE and tools for safety.
• Be part of essential works to keep gas supply running with standby/overtime options.

• Working independently in homes, businesses and outside to identify gas leaks and keep people safe
• Engaging with customers across our network, speaking to them with confidence and knowledge, active listening and understanding their service issues
• Resolving customer situations for a 10/10 customer service experience every time
• Using your ever-growing knowledge of gas services to problem solve complex situations and make situations safe for people, property and the environment
• Attending assigned gas escapes within a regulated deadline to ensure our service is robust, effective and customer-focused
• Ensuring your van is well-maintained and equipped, carrying the equipment, tools and PPE required to achieve results and keep yourself safe
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night - standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours

You will need…

• A friendly and approachable attitude with excellent customer service skills, as you will be dealing with members of the public
• A current ACS qualification, CCN1 or CESPI, and ideally MET1 to 4 (although this is not essential to apply for the role)
• You thrive in an environment involving public interaction, adapting to situations and remaining calm during situations
• You are curious, always wanting to learn and develop your skills. You seek knowledge from others and like to push and challenge yourself.
• You are flexible with working as part of a team rota that covers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means out of hours and weekend working is standard. This is managed through a transparent rota and additional compensation is paid
• A full and valid UK manual driving licence is essential
