Job summary

Ipsum is seeking a Drainage Engineer to respond to urgent drainage incidents across the Midlands. You will investigate blockages, collapses and flooding, assess risks to public safety and property, and provide effective technical solutions.

This full-time role includes weekends on 24/7 call outs and an on-call rota. A company vehicle and opportunities for professional qualifications are provided to support your career development.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in civil engineering, drainage or related field.
• Experience in reactive drainage operations or flood response.
• Understanding of domestic drainage systems.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience with local authorities, highways, utilities or drainage organisations.
• Knowledge of drainage legislation, SuDS and flood risk frameworks.
• Customer-facing experience and commitment to quality service.

Responsibilities

• Respond to urgent drainage incidents, flooding events and emergency call-outs across the region.
• Investigate drainage failures, blockages, collapses and flooding issues to identify root causes.
• Assess risk to public safety, highways, properties and infrastructure and recommend immediate mitigation measures.
• Provide technical guidance on emergency work, temporary repairs and permanent solutions.
• Review CCTV surveys, jetting records and inspection data to support remedial recommendations.
• Coordinate with regional teams to prioritise and manage reactive drainage workloads.
• Liaise with contractors, local authorities, water companies, emergency services and other stakeholders during incidents.
• Produce accurate technical reports, recommendations and incident records.
• Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
