Job summary

Ipsum Utilities Limited is hiring a Drainage Engineer to respond to urgent drainage incidents, carry out investigations and provide practical solutions across the region. The role includes on-call duties, day and late shifts, and liaising with authorities and contractors to protect public safety and infrastructure.

You should have a degree in civil engineering or related field, proven reactive drainage experience, a full UK driving licence and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in civil engineering, drainage or related field.
• Proven experience in reactive drainage operations or flood response.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience with local authorities, highways, utilities or drainage organisations.
• Knowledge of drainage legislation, SuDS principle and flood risk frameworks.
• Customer facing experience and commitment to excellent service.

Responsibilities

• Respond to urgent drainage incidents, flooding events and emergency call outs across the region.
• Investigate drainage failures, blockages, collapses and flooding issues to identify the root cause.
• Assess risk to public safety, highways, properties and infrastructure and recommend immediate mitigation measures.
• Provide technical guidance on emergency work, temporary repairs and permanent solutions.
• Review CCTV surveys, jetting records and inspection data to support remedial recommendations.
• Coordinating with regional teams to prioritise and manage reactive drainage workloads effectively.
• Liaise with contractors, local authorities, water companies, emergency service and other stakeholders during incidents.
• Produce accurate technical reports, recommendations and incident records.
• Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
