Job summary

Milk Education are seeking reliable Day to Day Emergency Cover Teaching Assistants to support South Tyneside schools from September 2026. Roles involve covering across primary and secondary settings, 1:1 work, small groups and whole-class support within flexible school environments.

Ideal candidates will have experience in education or related settings, with strong numeracy and literacy skills and a calm, adaptable approach. DBS update service eligibility is desirable.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a school, nursery, care, youth work or support setting is desirable but not essential
• Strong numeracy and literacy skills
• Ability to adapt quickly to different schools, classrooms and routines
• Calm, patient and adaptable approach
• Confident communication and relationship-building skills

Responsibilities

• Providing day-to-day emergency cover across a range of schools in South Tyneside
• Supporting pupils 1:1, in small groups or within the wider classroom
• Assisting teachers with learning activities and classroom routines
• Supporting pupils with SEND and additional learning needs as required
• Helping pupils stay focused, engaged and confident in their learning
• Building positive relationships with pupils and school staff
• Following lesson plans and school policies
• Adapting quickly to different classrooms and year groups
• Maintaining a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
• Providing flexible support wherever the school needs additional classroom assistance
