Job summary

Milk Education are recruiting for reliable and adaptable Secondary Teachers to provide emergency day-to-day cover across secondary schools in South Tyneside. This is a fantastic opportunity for qualified teachers, ECTs or experienced education professionals looking for flexible work across local secondary schools.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable; ECTs and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply.
• Previous experience in secondary teaching or supporting pupils in a school setting.
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills with an adaptable approach.
• Ability to follow pre-prepared lesson plans while engaging pupils.

Responsibilities

• Providing day-to-day emergency cover across secondary schools in South Tyneside.
• Delivering pre-prepared lessons across a range of subjects and year groups.
• Maintaining a positive, well-managed classroom environment.
• Following lesson plans and school guidance to ensure continuity of learning.

Emergency Cover Teacher - Secondary

Location: South Tyneside

Working hours: 8.30am-3.30pm Monday to Friday

This is a fantastic opportunity for qualified teachers, ECTs or experienced education professionals looking for flexible work across local secondary schools. You'll be supporting schools when they need additional teaching staff, often at short notice, ensuring pupils continue to receive high-quality learning and support throughout the school day.

As an Emergency Cover Teacher, no two days will necessarily be the same. You could be covering different subjects and year groups, delivering pre-prepared lessons and maintaining positive classroom routines. The ability to quickly adapt to different school environments, confidently manage behaviour and build positive relationships with pupils is key.

Emergency Cover Teacher Key Responsibilities:

• Providing day-to-day emergency cover across secondary schools in South Tyneside

• Delivering pre-prepared lessons across a range of subjects and year groups

• Maintaining a positive, purposeful and well-managed classroom environment

• Following lesson plans and school guidance to ensure continuity of learning

• Supporting pupils to remain engaged, focused and on task throughout lessons

• Managing classroom behaviour confidently and consistently in line with school expectations

• Building positive and professional relationships with pupils and school staff

• Adapting quickly to different schools, classrooms, year groups and learning environments

• Providing appropriate support to pupils with SEND and additional learning needs where required

• Providing clear feedback to the relevant teacher or school staff following lessons

• Promoting a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can succeed

Emergency Cover Teacher Person Specification:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable; ECTs and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply

• Previous experience teaching or supporting pupils within a secondary school environment

• Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills

• A confident, calm and adaptable approach

• Ability to quickly build positive relationships with pupils and staff

• Strong communication and organisational skills

• Ability to follow pre-prepared lesson plans while adapting to the needs of the class

• Ability to work proactively, both independently and as part of a wider school team

• A genuine passion for education and supporting young people

• Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (or willingness to apply)
