Job summary

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Switchboard Operator to join our busy switchboard team in Bury St Edmunds. The role focuses on answering high volumes of calls, prioritising emergency lines, and coordinating on-call rotas and transport for patients and staff.

You'll handle emergency and external calls, book contract taxis and issue radios and loan devices, supporting site operations and ensuring rapid responses to critical situations across the Trust.

Responsibilities

• Emergency calls made to switchboard (Maternity Emergencies, Paediatric Emergencies, Cardiac Arrests, Stroke Alerts, Stroke Thrombolysis, Massive Blood Loss, Traumas, and RPIs) and coordinating on-call teams.
• External Emergency calls to Fire Brigade and Police.
• On-call rotas for all departments within the trust; update Doctors Board and issue daily on-call lists.
• Booking of contract taxis for patient transport, medication transport, pathology sample transfers, staff transfers, and discharge-related taxi needs (including the psycho liaison team).
• Issuing Loan Alertive devices.
• Assisting Site Manager by issuing Radios to on-call teams during switchboard/bleep system issues.
