Job summary

Thales Reading is seeking an Electronics Engineer to contribute to state-of-the-art defence and security platforms. The role blends design, development and integration across the full lifecycle, with some on-site lab work and hybrid working.

The successful candidate will design electronic circuits, use Cadence/Mentor tools, perform lab testing, and collaborate with systems, mechanical, software and safety teams, while security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience of electronic/electrical design in a real-world environment (circuit simulation, block diagrams, drawing schematics, etc)
• Use of schematic capture packages (Cadence, Mentor Graphics or similar)
• Practical experience of lab work (eg. soldering, circuit testing, cable assembly, debug, etc)
• Some experience testing at circuit board and system level (eg. board bring-up and debug, EMC testing)
• General understanding of engineering process and design lifecycles
• Personal organisational and time-management skills

Responsibilities

• Undertake design of electronic circuit assemblies, from concept through design, test and system integration
• Engage with a multi-disciplinary team across the project (systems, mechanical, software, safety, etc) to develop an optimum solution
• Work collaboratively with the project team to ensure products meet all requirements
• Contribute to the development of the wider electronics team, including proposing and implementing improvements, participating in peer reviews and sharing knowledge and good practice across the team
• Generate design documentation such as specifications, test plans and design records
• Prepare for and participate in peer reviews and project design reviews
• Report progress of work against cost, schedule and performance
