Job summary

Platform Recruitment is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Cambridgeshire to join a dynamic product development team. The role offers hands-on involvement across the full lifecycle from concept to production, with opportunities to lead mechanical design projects and interact with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates will have a degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field, plus practical experience with prototyping and electro‑mechanical products.

Qualifications

• Understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances and finishes.
• Hands-on prototyping or workshop-based activity experience.
• Experience developing consumer, scientific or electro‑mechanical products.

Responsibilities

• Develop designs from concept through prototype, manufacture and production.
• Create 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed drawings.
• Build and assemble prototypes.
• Prepare manufacturing documentation, assembly instructions and drawings.
• Collaborate with production to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
• Investigate new materials, processes and finishing techniques.
