Job summary

We are seeking a skilled Shift Engineer (Electrical) to join the University of Leeds facilities management team. This full-time, permanent role involves working 4 on / 4 off, 8:00am–8:00pm, to maintain critical building services and deliver high-quality client service.

You will perform PPM and reactive maintenance, diagnose faults, ensure compliance, and collaborate with engineers and subcontractors to meet service levels.

Qualifications

• Electrical NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations required.
• Experience in Facilities Management or similar maintenance environment.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Good health & safety and compliance knowledge.
• Excellent communication and customer service.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive electrical maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently and safely.
• Complete maintenance tasks in line with statutory compliance and health & safety requirements.
• Support the operation and maintenance of building services systems and associated plant.
• Accurately complete job records, maintenance reports, and compliance documentation.
• Respond to emergency callouts and support business continuity requirements when necessary.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
• Ensure all works are completed to agreed service levels and quality standards.

The Role

About You

We'd Love To Hear From You If You Have

• Electrical NVQ Level 3
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
• Experience working within Facilities Management, Building Services, or a similar maintenance environment.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance requirements.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• A proactive approach and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
