Job summary

The University of Leeds, in partnership with Wates Smartspace, is seeking a skilled Shift Engineer (Electrical) to join the Facilities Management team. This role focuses on maintaining critical building services across the campus and ensuring safety, compliance, and reliability for staff, students, and visitors.

You will perform PPM and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and documentation, working 4 on / 4 off from 8:00am to 8:00pm.

Qualifications

• Electrical NVQ Level 3 qualification.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
• Experience in Facilities Management or building services maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive electrical maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently and safely.
• Complete maintenance tasks in line with statutory compliance and health & safety requirements.
• Support the operation and maintenance of building services systems and associated plant.
• Accurately complete job records, maintenance reports, and compliance documentation.
• Respond to emergency callouts and support business continuity requirements when necessary.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
• Ensure all works are completed to agreed service levels and quality standards.

Working as part of a multi-skilled engineering team, you'll be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across a diverse estate, helping to maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient environment for staff, students, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

• Electrical NVQ Level 3
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
• Experience working within Facilities Management, Building Services, or a similar maintenance environment.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance requirements.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• A proactive approach and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
