Job summary

The Shift Engineer (Electrical) role at the University of Leeds, supplied by Wates, focuses on maintaining critical building services across a busy estate to support staff, students and visitors. You will perform planned and reactive electrical maintenance within a multi-skilled team, ensuring compliance, safety and reliable operation of all electrical plant on site, with a DBS check at offer stage.

Excellent fault-finding, documenting maintenance actions, and coordinating with subcontractors

Qualifications

Electrical NVQ Level 3
18th Edition Wiring Regulations
Experience in Facilities Management or Building Services
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Good understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Proactive approach and ability to work independently or in a team

Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive electrical maintenance activities.
Diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently and safely.
Complete maintenance tasks in line with statutory compliance and health & safety requirements.
Support the operation and maintenance of building services systems and associated plant.
Accurately complete job records, maintenance reports, and compliance documentation.
Respond to emergency callouts and support business continuity when necessary.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
Ensure all works are completed to agreed service levels and quality standards.
